Why Bristol is amazing

Jan 28, 2018 | Bristol

We know it’s amazing, but do you?

At YZ Designs, we are Bristol born and bred. We’re really proud of our Brizzle roots, and think that our city is a fantastic place to live and work – and it seems that we’re not alone in realising why Bristol is amazing!

In fact, did you know that Bristol was named as Rough Guide’s Top UK City of 2017 and the best place to live in Britain in the Sunday Times Best Places to Live Guide?

With that in mind, for our latest blog, we thought we’d take a closer look at our home city to show why Bristol is amazing – read on and discover why we love it as much as we do!

Why Bristol is so amazing to live and work

We have our own currency the ‘Bristol Pound’

Yes you read that right, Bristol is the proud owner of its own currency – the Bristol Pound. Accepted by retailers across the city, the Bristol Pound is available in digital or paper form and aims to support local businesses and the local economy – something that we’re really passionate about at YZ Designs!

We go mad for balloons at the ‘Bristol Fiesta’ every year

The annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is now in its 40th year and provides a whole load of free fun for all the family. Held at the city’s Ashton Court Estate over four days in August, the festival is home to 130 colourful hot air balloons in all shapes and sizes. Highlights include the morning and evening balloon ascents (weather depending), as well as the famous night-glows on the Thursday and Saturday nights where the balloons are illuminated in time to music – a must see!

Banksy made his name here

One of Bristol’s most famous sons is Banksy, the illusive graffiti artist who has become famous for his street art all over the world, with some of his pieces selling for hundreds of thousands of pounds. He was born here in 1974 and his creations can be spotted all over the city – there’s even a great walking tour that you can do in order to appreciate them for yourself.

We’re home to Wallace and Gromit

Bristol is also home to the world-renowned Aardman Animations, creators of everyone’s favourite plasticine characters – Wallace and Gromit! Stars of the small and silver screen, these two will be taking to the streets of Bristol this summer for a charity trail called Gromit Unleashed 2 – and we can’t wait!

Our bridge is something of an icon

We’re not going to lie – we have a pretty famous landmark in Bristol that Bristolians all share a certain soft spot for. We’re talking about the Clifton Suspension Bridge of course, which was designed and built by the legendary engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1864 and has been the city’s symbol for almost 150 years.
